Private by default: why dues status should never be public

How Golbi keeps who has and hasn't paid dues visible only to the admins who need it — and never to the rest of the roster.

A lot of clubs still track dues in a shared spreadsheet. It works right up until the day the wrong person opens the tab and sees exactly which families are behind. Payment status is quiet, personal information, and it deserves the same care as a medical form.

Who can see what

In Golbi, dues status is admin-only. A parent sees their own balance and their own payment history — never anyone else's. Admins with the right role see the roster-wide picture they need to chase payments, and that view is scoped to their organization alone.

What we deliberately do not do

  • We never show a public leaderboard of who has paid.
  • We never surface one family's balance to another family.
  • We never carry a payment record across organizations.

The goal is simple: collecting dues should feel routine, and it should never quietly expose the people who are having a hard month.
